A devi temple located on a hill top in Dhanaulti. The temple is located on the main road that connects Mussoorie to Chamba at a distance of around 35km from Mussoorie.
There is a two km trek to reach the temple and its a tough trek to reach the top. There are sufficient rest points on the trek route. The facility of hiring a horse too is available for trek. Tourists are requested to take their water bottles before starting the trek. There are some local restaurants available for the tourists to have breakfast or even buy water bottles. However, tourists need to be careful of monkeys on the trek route. Government is planning to start the ropeway service for the tourists to Surkunda Devi temple. The starting point of the trek is Kaddukhal village.
About Surkunda Devi Temple - It is believed that the temple has its origins to a tale in Skanda Purana. The temple is one of the 51 shakti peeths and the temple is also a popular sun rise point. Lots of nature lovers reach the temple in the early morning hours to see the sunrise, which is spectacular from this point. From the top, many popular himalayan peaks are visible. There are some snacks points available for coffee, tea and maggi on the top.
Surkunda Devi is a two km frek from Kaddukhal village, which is located on main Mussoorie Chamba highway. Local taxis are available from DehraDun as well as Mussoorie for Surkunda Devi Temple.
