Adi Shankaracharya was a philosopher and a theologian. He is the one who propounded the Adwitiya philosophy and he was the one who established this holy shrine. Adi Shankaracharya travelled across the country to propagate his philosophy through various discussions and there are a large number of people who believe in his philosophy. He also explained the difference between Hinduism and Buddhism.
Adi Shankaracharya attained Moksha (freedom from body) at the age of 32 in this land near the Kedarnath Temple and merged under the land where this place is located.
The Samadhi was located behind the Kedarnath Temple but was washed away at the time of the Kedarnath floods in 2013.
