The Sarla Ashram is located at a distance of 1 kilometre from Kausani. The visiting hours at the ashram are 8 am to 5 pm. The entry to this ashram is free of cost.
Sarla ashram, also known as Lakshmi Ashram is a Gandhian based institute for girls ans is aimed at making the girls self-dependent. The ashram is devoted to self service. The ashram is surrounded by a tranquil aura which is wonderful for the boarding school run y the ashram as well as for the visitors. The ashram is also an important center for rural women and activists that are motivated and are amazingly assisted to self-reliant lives.
It is suggested that the tourists visiting the ashram maintain silence in the premises of the ashram and one can take their own food but as it is not allowed to eat inside the ashram, one can enjoy the view outside while savouring the delicious snacks.
The ashram was started in the year1964 by Sarla Ben or Katherine Mary Heilemann who was an ardent follower of Mahatma Gandhi. She left London to support Gandhiji in his independence movement in the year 1931 and supported him and followed his principles since then.
One can take a hired taxi to reach the ashram but as the ashram is not very faraway, one can walk the distance to reach the ashram.
