The Naini Lake was founded by a European named Mr. P. Barron in 1839 who came here for hunting and was mesmerised by the beauty of the lake. According to a legend it is said that Lord Shiva performed his Tandav at Naini Lake. It is also believed that two Indian Sages visited there and they blessed the lake with divine power that one can acquire divinement by taking a bath at the lake just like the Man Sarovar Lake. The lake is also mentioned in a Hindu scripture named Trishi Puran as “Trishi Sarovar” and the name refers to the great Sages who meditated here.
One can reach the Lake by walking from the Bus Stand while a rikshaw can also be hired according to One’s convenience.
