Dwarahat is a town in the Almora District of Uttarakhand. The town is perched at an elevation of 1,510 metres above the sea level. Dwarahat exhibits a group of 55 distinguished temples which makes the town a major attraction for devotees. The meaning of the word Dwarahat literally means “The way to Heaven” in local language. A trip of one or two days is good enough to explore the places in Dwarahat and hence the place is good to go for a perfect weekend getaway to get into a place away from the hustle bustle of the major towns.
Dwarahat is famous for the various temples the town houses including the Dunagiri Temple, Badrinath temple and the Pandukholi caves. Dwarahat is also famous as an educational center of Kumaon Region because of the presence of Kumaon Engineering College in the town. The town is also known for providing picturesque views and beholding spectacular scenery.

The college holds a very significant importance when it comes to education in the Kumaon Region of Uttarakahand.

Visit to the various temples is another activity which is a delight for the devotees visiting the place. Dwarahat is a small town so one may not find many restaurants in the town hence the best option to eat food is at the hotel or ashram where one is staying as good food is served in the few Hotels located in the town. Local and Indian cuisines are majorly served at the Hotels in the town of Dwarahat.
Dwarahat is a small town and therefore there are not a lot of places to stay in Dwarahat. Some of the Hotels in Dwarahat are Dunagiri Retreat, Mayank resort and Chandralok. Tourists can also stay in ashram located in the town which provides beautiful view of the surrounding towns and mountains. It is suggested that tourist do not expect much from the place as the hotels are average and there are no 3 or 4 star hotels in Dwarahat.
Dwarahat was the capital of the Katyuri kingdom as well as a power center of the Katyuri rulers who ruled in the 16th century. The town has many ancient temples.

Hindu festivals celebrated in the Kumaon Region including Makar Sankranti, Basant Panchmi, Harela, Bhaitauli, Olghia (Ghee Sakranti) and Ganga Dussehra are celebrated with great joy. The other festivals celebrated in all parts of the state of Uttarakhand including Holi, Maha Shivratri, Ram Navmi, Navratri and Diwali are also celebrated with pomp and pleasure in the town of Dwarahat.
