Chopta is famous for the trekking routes of Deori Tal, Tungnath and Chandrashila which gives a good trekking and camping experience to travellers and trekkers seeking natural beauty. 

Chopta is an unspoiled natural destination which has minor human alteration and is a good place for intermediate trekkers to brush up their skills. Chopta is the commencement point of the trek to Tungnath which is the third Kedar and further to Chandrashila which is the highest point of the valley. Chopta is easily accessible by road. The area is rich in flora and fauna with plenty of Rhododendron, pine and deodar trees. Chopta is a perfect destination for nature admirers and adventure junkies.


Wildlife photographers also find the place very interesting due to the presence of varied Himalayan species. The rare opportunity that Chopta offers is the Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary. The spectacular view from the Chandrashila Peak, religious importance of Tugnath Temple and breathtaking beauty of Deori Tal are all the things that attract a large number of tourists to the valley every year. It is suggested to carry light woollen clothes in summers and heavy woollen clothes in winters.

Chauhan Guest House: This is a small and clean restaurant giving a good dining experience in the town. It is good not to expect much but you can surely enjoy the kind of home cooked food in this eatery.

Some other places to stay are Alpine Adventure Camp and Hotel Mandakini which are two of the most well reputed places. Apart from this most of the tourists are trekkers who do camping in the desired destination be it Deori Tal or Chandrashila.

Holi, Diwali and Basant Panchmi are some of the major hindu festivals which are celebrated with great pomp in Chopta. During the winter season Pandava Dance is performed after the harvesting of crops.
