The beautiful views of the Himalayas are worth capturing from the place and Mundali is the place from where this can be done the best along with a golden opportunity for doing skiing in winters. The lush green landscapes and plantations of fruits like apple is what makes Chakrata most famous.

In 1901, Chakrata Tehsil was a part of Dehradun district consisting of the towns of Chakrata and Kalsi which is most known for the rock edict of the Mauryan King Ashoka 2nd century B.C. It was first discovered by John Forest in 1860.

The people in Chakrata are mostly of Jaunsari tribe and festive sports and folk dances are an important part of their culture which makes their tribe very vibrant and fascinating. The most important festival of the tribe in Chakrata which is different from others is the “Magh Mela” which has a ritual of sacrificing an animal. Other Indian festivals like Holi and Diwali are also celebrated with great pomp in Chakrata.
