Located at a height of 2,500 metres to 3,050 metres above the sea level, Auli is a ski destination in Chamoli District in the Himalayan mountains of Uttarakhand. Auli lies on the way to the Hindu pilgrimage destination of Badrinath. the tourist destination is surrounded by coniferous and oak forests and the place is a home to many mountain ranges of Nanda Devi, Mana Parvat, Trishul Peak and Kamat Kamet.
Auli is famous for Ski and is also known as the “Ski Capital of India”. The place is also famous for the majestic views of the surrounding mountain ranges and the natural beauty of the place.
Auli is a tourist destination and the place where winter sports competitions are held to encourage ski in India. There is a 4 kilometres cable car, a chair lift and a ski lift along with a trekking route in this ski destination of India. The place can be visited at any time of the year as there is the artificial lake which is created for the times when there is low snowfall.The ropeway in Auli is the second largest ropeway in Asia after the Gulmarg Gondola.

It is believed that Shankaracharya has blessed Auli with his visit. The first South Asian Winter Games were held in Auli and Dehradun in the year 2011.
